In case you haven’t seen it, today’s “Google Doodle” is an Earth day quiz in which you can find out which animal you are!
Turns out I am a mantis shrimp, which I initially thought was weird and sort of gross in the sense that you wouldn’t want it to crawl on you. But in spite of these perceived characteristics I was still curious to find out more, so I did a quick google search (of course google knew that you would take their quiz and search for your animal afterwards).
It turns out my first impression was right — mantis shrimp are very weird, and you DEFINITELY wouldn’t want one crawling on you — but not because they’re creepy-crawly looking (although that’s true, too), but because they can pack a punch! And it’s not the weak little punch you would expect to get from one of the shrimp that ends up in a supermarket refrigerator — a mantis shrimp punch generates as much force as a 22 caliber bullet! Which according to the video below from BBC Earth, won’t go through you, but will definitely hurt a lot. Check it out!
